1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) tops QS World University Rankings 2020-2023 and stands 1st for the 8th year running. Situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts, MIT is doubtless famous for its physical sciences and engineering, but it is also rapidly acquiring reputation in other subject fields from the social sciences, arts, and humanities.
2. Stanford University
Stanford University ranks 3rd in the world in the 2020-2023 tables. Located in the heart of the famous Silicon Valley, Stanford University is particularly known for its business courses – boasting an alumni community full of outstanding entrepreneurs, and reached a top position for environment in the QS World University Rankings.
3. Harvard University
Harvard University breaks the unbroken trio of US universities at top of the QS World University Rankings this year. Harvard is actually the oldest university in the US – dating back to its registration in 1636 – and achieved position one for accounting and finance in the QS World University Rankings by Faculty 2023.
4. California Institute of Technology (Caltech)
Again, the California Institute of Technology stays within the 6th place of the overall world ranking this year and is located in Pasadena, California. The smallest US university in the top 10, Caltech punches above its weight—particularly in scientific and technical subjects.
5. University of Chicago
It is ranked US and World 10th this year. University of Chicago Of the 89 affiliated Nobel Prize winners, its physics department is credited with developing the world’s first man-made, self-sustaining nuclear reaction.
6. University of Pennsylvania
The University of Pennsylvania, Known as Penn, it ranks 13th in the world this year. Located in Philadelphia, it’s one of the other institutions which is highly renowned for life sciences and medicine, coming 1st in this year’s inaugural ranking of the world’s top nursing schools.
7. Princeton University
Princeton University again retained its position at 16th place this year. It is among the oldest universities in the US, particularly excelling in mathematics, and placed 4th in the faculty rankings.
8. Yale University
It places 18th in the QS World University Rankings this year. Yale University was founded by a group of English Puritans in 1701 and is the oldest higher education institution in the United States but only behind Harvard and William and Mary. It is especially distinguished for its high standard of academic excellence in translational medicine and research.
9. Cornell University
Located in Ithaca, New York, Cornell University moves up one place in the world rankings this year to 20th. It’s awarded the nation’s first veterinary medicine degree and is currently 5th in the world for veterinary science according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023.
10. Columbia University
Columbia University It is ranked 22nd in the world this year. Founded in 1754, Columbia University is a private Ivy League research university in Upper Manhattan, New York City. It was originally founded as King’s College by the royal charter of George II of Great Britain, and later changed to Columbia College in 1784 after the American Revolutionary War.
